Bryan Fury knocking Heihachi Mishima off a balcony at Jungle Outpost
Balcony Break is a stage gimmick first introduced in Tekken Tag Tournament 2.
Description[]
As its name implies, the receiving character will be blown through a balcony and will fall down to the lower floor. The opponent does not need to be facing forward for this mechanic to occur, but triggering the balcony break from a side angle or hitting the victim's back will affect the position when they land.
Certain throws, such as Unknown's Riai Gokumon, will also be able to trigger the Balcony Break.
The history of Balcony Breaks started with Anger of the Earth in Tekken 6: Bloodline Rebellion, where the stage's Floor Break and Wall Break were tied together.
While sharing the same trigger as the Wall Break, the Balcony Break would also leave the opponent in a Bound state like with the Floor Break. This meant that the attacker would no longer be able to Bound their opponent if they hadn't done so when the Balcony Break occurred. In its original appearance, upon triggering the Balcony Break, the player's sub character would automatically tag in and run in from behind the opponent. Notably, there was also a small window where the main player's character could still act before the game swapped to the sub character though the opponent would still be invulnerable in this period of time. When Unlimited introduced solo play, a solo player would have their character follow their opponent down to the lower floor and land in front of them instead.
In Tekken Revolution, like the Floor Break, the Balcony Break's landing would bounce the receiving character in the air instead, and this change would remain in Tekken 7. In Tekken 7 though, if an attack that can trigger a Screw was used to Balcony Break, then the attacker will no longer be able to use the Screw in the continuation of their combo or in any successive combo reset. If a standing opponent is hit by a single-hit move that triggers Screw (e.g: Anger Hook), then the attacker will not be able to Screw for the rest of the combo. If a multi-hit string that ends with a Screw triggers the Balcony Break against a standing opponent (e.g: Cloisonne), then the attacker can still use a Screw for the rest of the combo. Since Tekken 7, a Balcony Break will also not trigger when a wallsplat K.O.s the opponent.

Trivia[]
- All attacks that trigger a Screw or a Wall Bounce can also trigger a Balcony Break.
- If a trade occurs between two attacks that trigger a Balcony Break, the character with their back at the wall will simply be splat and the mechanic will not trigger.
- The gimmick is similar to Falls Off The Edge in the Dead or Alive games.
