Demon's Boar (羅生門 Rashōmon?, lit. "City Wall Gate") is a move used by Heihachi Mishima since Tekken 3. In Tekken 6, it was replaced with Tatarigoroshi, but the move returned in Tekken Tag Tournament 2 under its Japanese name. It also forms the second hit of Heihachi's Demon Massacre and Demon Lair strings and is the initial hit of his original Rage Drive in Tekken 7: Fated Retribution.
In Tekken 7 Season 2, the attack acts as Heihachi's Wall Bounce.
Kuma and Panda have a variant of this known as Demon Bear.
Reina has a move also named Rashomon, performed from her Sentai stance, that is visually identical. While both attacks go under this name in Tekken 8, the original name will be used to describe Heihachi's version.
Description[]
The move is a strong right spinning backfist to the opponent's midsection.
The move Eisho Mon is essentially a low-angled version of this attack.
In Tekken 8, holding 2 will result in two possible alternate moves. If 2 is held then released when Heihachi's fist flashes, he will perform the Zenith Rashomon, which has two levels depending on how perfectly timed the release was. If 2 is held down without being released Heihachi will instead perform the True Rashomon.
Trivia[]
- "Rashōmon/Rajōmon" is the name of a famous castle gate in both Nara and Kyōto built as a Taoist landmark, and was the inspiration of a story written by Ryūnosuke Akutagawa, with a film adaptation directed by Akira Kurosawa.
- This move's Japanese name however, is not to be confused for one of Geese Howard's attacks of the same name.
- The move's literal meaning of "Gauze Life Gate" also ties into its other nod to the fragility of life in Japanese philosophy, divided by death through a mere thin sheet.
- Demon's Boar has its origins in Tekken 2. While not available in that game as a standalone move, it was originally the unnamed 9th hit of Heihachi's second and third 10 Hit Combos. Unlike the standalone version, the 10 Hit Combo version in Tekken 2 (and only that game) hits low.
- Likely due to the graphical limitations of Tekken Advance, the Demon's Boar animation is reused for Dark Thrust.
