Floor Break is a stage gimmick first introduced in Tekken 6.
Description[]
As its name implies, the floor beneath the player and the opponent will break after an attack that spikes the victim downwards, and the attacker will be free to continue their combo. The victim's state when they are being spiked downward will also affect the state they will be in when they land on the floor.
The floor break can also occur as a result of certain throws such as Hwoarang's Falcon Dice Kick, however the opponent can quick stand after the bound state if the floor break is triggered by a throw. Due to the nature of this mechanic, a floor break will still occur if two characters spike each other on the ground at the same time. Doing this results in both being thrown into the air as they land, and both being denied a combo.
In its introduction, whenever someone fell through the floor, they were always left in a Bound state. As a result, the attacker could no longer Bound their opponent assuming they had yet to use it when the Floor Break occurred.
In Tekken Revolution, this was changed to the receiving character bouncing up on the ground rather than being left in a Bound State, similar to the effect given when a Balcony Break is triggered in Tekken Tag Tournament 2, and this change would persist to Tekken 7. Due to the introduction of consecutive Floor Breaks in Tekken 7, multiple Floor Breaks will not trigger in a single combo. In vanilla Tekken 7, the workaround, however, was to spike an opponent with a combo reset, such as with Shears to Spinning Edge, but this was removed in Fated Retribution. A Floor Break also cannot occur after a Balcony Break.
From Tekken 6 to Tekken Tag Tournament 2, a Floor Break will cause 10 extra points of damage when the opponent drops to the lower floor. Floor Breaks no longer cause extra damage since Tekken 7.
Since Tekken 7, a floor break can be triggered anywhere on the floor, rather than some area of the floor.
In Tekken 8, triggering a floor break will prevent the player from being able to use a Wall Bound.
Hard Floor Break[]
The Hard Floor Break is a variant of the normal Floor Break introduced in Tekken 8 and requires two hits to trigger the break instead of the normal one or by one Heat Smash which can cause a Floor Break.

Trivia[]
- During the beta for Tekken 6, a successful floor break would immediately ground the opponent as opposed to leaving them in a Bound for further follow-ups.[1]
- In its original release, there was a glitch in Cave of Enlightenment where, if there was a trade between a move that triggered a Balcony Break, and a move that triggered Floor Break, both characters would fall past the bottom floor and would be unable to interact with each other until the end of the round. This glitch was eventually fixed in Patch 3.31.
- All attacks that trigger a Bound will also trigger the Floor Break.
