An Item Move is a customization feature that was first introduced in Tekken 6. This feature allows the player to equip certain items that have an effect on gameplay, rather than just being an accessory. Some "Item Move" features are used to inflict damage; however, their start time and recovery frames are too long and others are only used for taunting or to alter certain grab attacks.

Initially, Tekken 6 only introduced one specific item move per character, and a sledgehammer for the male characters and Kuma, Panda, and Leo along with a naginata for the female characters and Roger Jr. In Tekken Tag Tournament 2 and Tekken 7, a wide variety of generic item moves are introduced including functions as projectiles, new throws, K.O animations and other different utilities. In Tekken 8, only one attacking Item Move can be equipped at a time as they all occupy the back, and character-exclusive item moves were also removed entirely.

Trivia[]

  • In Tekken Tag Tournament 2, Unknown and Tiger Jackson did not have any item moves as items could not be equipped on them.
  • In the console version of Tekken Tag Tournament 2, Prototype Jack's Crane item move received a large damage reduction. The item move was an attack throw that could be used in legitimate combos, as it could also throw airborne opponents.
  • In Tekken 8, the Shotgun's pushback in Tekken Ball was heavily reduced in Patch 1.06.01 as the large pushback easily blew the ball outside an opponent's range[1]
