Lei has medium length black hair which is tied in low ponytail and brown eyes. His appearance is based on the real martial artist and cultural icon, Jackie Chan. Lei's primary outfit consists of both his Kung-Fu attire and his police gear. From Tekken 3 and onwards, his hair becomes longer and has long fringes in each side of his hair. However around "Tekken 5" his hairstyle is shortened to about a shoulder length ponytail although he retains his long fringes. In Tekken 7, his long hair is cut short and is styled in a slicked back and ragged style with small fringes. He now has gray streaks in his hair due to his age.
Tekken 2[]
Lei debuts in the second installment of the game and wears two of his default outfits. His hair however is medium length.
Player 1 outfit:
Lei wears a blue long sleeved changshan with white folded sleeves and a long black belt which is tucked into his changshan, black Chinese pants, and black Chinese shoes and white socks. This is his martial arts outfit. His hair is shown to be tied in a low ponytail.
In Tekken: The Motion Picture, he wears this outfit but with white linings on the button side of his changshan and his hair is dark blue instead of black.
Player 2 outfit:
Lei is now seen wearing a white long sleeved button-up shirt with an extended collar and black suspenders, beige colored pants, and black shoes. His medium length hair has been cut into short hair. In his in-game appearance, his handgun is hanging loose at the center of his primary outfit. This is his police outfit.
In the console opening and his ending, he wears yellow goggles to protect his eyes and white and blue earmuffs to protect his ears during target practice.
Tekken 3[]
Lei's hair becomes longer with long fringes on each side of his head, and two of his default outfits have been modified.
Player 1 outfit:
His changshan is now green with black rounded designs and white trim. He also wears a black belt which is over his changshan. The front of his changshan was lengthened to be below the knee at the front and longer at the back and the interior is white with a golden dragon design underneath. With this outfit, he wears magenta Chinese pants with gold dragon and flower designs, and black shoes with gold soles and white socks. This outfit is also seen from his ending while practicing his 5 form styles of Kung-Fu.
In his in-game appearance, his green changshan does not have the black designs and the length is now below his thighs. His black belt becomes thicker, and his Chinese pants are now red instead of magenta with the designs white instead of gold.
Player 2 outfit:
He wears an updated version of his Player 2 outfit from Tekken 2. The button-up shirt that he wears is replaced with a white short sleeve v-neck shirt with two black buttons, and his black suspenders are replaced with a shoulder holster. His pants are now dark brown and his shoes are now brown. He also gains blue fingerless gloves, a police badge, and handcuffs connected to the left side of his belt.
This outfit is also seen in the console opening of the game.
Tekken Tag Tournament[]
Player 1 outfit:
Lei's Player 1 outfit is a recolor of his Tekken 3 Player 1 outfit. His changshan is now purple, his pants are now green, and his sash is now red. He maintains the golden designs on his pants. His changshan is now longer to match the back of his outfit.

Like his Player 1 outfit, Lei's Player 3 outfit is a recolor of his Tekken 3 Player 2 outfit. His v-neck shirt is now dark blue, his pants are dark red, and his shoes are black. He maintains the black shoulder holster.

Tekken 4[]
Lei receives one new outfit for Tekken 4 and a modified version of his original outfit from his first appearance in Tekken 2.
Player 1 outfit:
Lei wears a shorter, light blue changshan that is left undone to reveal his torso and has a crane design on the back. The changshan has white trim at the hem, collar, cuffs, and opening, and has black fasteners along the front. He also wears black Chinese pants and gray Chinese shoes with white socks. This is a modified version of his Player 1 outfit from Tekken 2.
Player 2 outfit:
Lei now wears a brown leather bomber jacket with a dark green short sleeved undershirt, blue jeans, and dark brown leather shoes. This outfit is different than his previous Player 2 outfits and has yet to return in later games.
He also wears this outfit during the interconnected endings between Nina, Steve and himself.
- During his prologue while recovering from his injuries and before he enters the King of the Iron Fist Tournament 4, Lei is seen wearing only a pair of boxers.
Tekken 5/Dark Resurrection[]
Player 1 outfit:
Lei now wears a mixture between both his Tekken 2 and Tekken 3 primary outfits and the design of his changshan is based on his primary outfit in Tekken 3 while the color scheme of his outfit was in his Tekken 2 primary outfit.
He now wears a royal blue long sleeve changshan with diamond designs on front, a dragon design at the back of his jacket and the back of his changshan was longer up to the knee, the interior of his changshan has golden designs and has a red belt tucked into his changshan instead of a black belt. dark brown pants with black round designs and a red ribbon tied in each sleeves of his pants and black Chinese shoes with white socks. In Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection, the color scheme of his primary outfit in Tekken 5 is mainly based on his main outfit in Tekken 3 which is recolored into green and red once again.
Player 2 outfit:
He wears an updated version of his secondary outfit in Tekken 2, his button shirt is now pink and gains police emblems in each side of his button shirt, his suspenders are now brown, his pants are now white instead of dark brown and his belt are now brown, and wears white leather shoes. He regains his blue fingerless gloves from his Player 2 outfit in Tekken 3. In Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection, the color scheme of his outfit is mainly based on his Tekken 3 secondary outfit. The color of his button shirt becomes white, his pants are now dark brown and his suspenders are now black, his fingerless gloves are now green instead of blue but maintains his white leather shoes from its original outfit.

Lei has four more customizable outfits which must be unlocked either via Scenario Campaign or purchased with in-game fight money.
- Police Outfit (1): This outfit consists of a white helmet, a double-breasted, leather police jacket with a white cravat worn underneath. There is a gold badge underneath the left lapel, two cloth badges on each of the upper arms, and shoulder straps over each shoulder. Lei also wears a black utility belt with a holster at his right side and a pouch at his left. With this outfit, Lei wears leather police pants with calf-length black boots, a black belt, and leather gloves that are black over the hands and white over the forearm.
- Police Outfit (2): This outfit consists of Lei's white Player 2 pants and overalls over a button-up police shirt with two breast pockets, a tie, a tie clip, shoulder straps on each shoulder, and a badge worn over Lei's left breast pocket. With this outfit, Lei wears a flat police cap with a short brim and an emblem at the front.

Street Fighter X Tekken[]

Swap Costume:
Lei's Swap Costume is based on Dan Hibiki, as he wears a pink karate gi which is ripped into short sleeves with a black undershirt and a matching pink karate pants with shreds at the edge of the sleeves of his pants. He has a black Chinese sash at the left side of his gi as opposed to a karate belt, and maintains his black Chinese shoes and white socks from his primary outfit. He also gains black gauntlets and a red tengu mask which it was shown at the right side of his head.
Alternate Costume:
Lei's alternate costume is based on one of his customizations in Tekken 6, which he wears a black armor vest with a different shades of blue futuristic combat armor suit with neon green designs and a matching blue and neon green shoes. He also wears a gray futuristic combat gloves and a radio microphone on his head.

Preset B outfit:
Lei's Preset B outfit consists of a black and white houndstooth patterned button-up shirt under a black and gray bulletproof vest with a pair of white slacks with a brown leather belt and brown leather shoes. The outfit is accessorized with a silver watch on his left wrist.
Preset C outfit:
In the Wii U version of Tekken Tag Tournament 2, Lei has a third outfit based on Toad from the Mario series. He wears a blue vest with gold trim, large, loose white pants, oversized brown shoes, and a large white mushroom cap with red spots on his head.

Tekken 7/Fated Retribution[]
Lei returns in Tekken 7 as a Season 2 DLC character. Lei's appearance has become a little older, with facial stubble and gray streaks in his hair. His previously long black hair is cut short, slicked back, and slightly unkempt.
Player 1 outfit:
Lei wears a white v-neck shirt similar to his shirt from Tekken 3 beneath a blue and white letterman jacket with a dark blue and white trim. He has a red and gray shoulder pad on his left arm with a Chinese logo along with gray elbow pad. He has a beige long sleeve button-up shirt tied around his waist, khaki cargo pants with a black knee pad on his left knee with the sign "Police", along with a thigh band and gray combat boots. He has a gun holster on his right thigh where he keeps his handgun and has two dog tags worn around on his neck. He also has a white bandage on his nose.
Aside from his Player 1 and Player 2 outfits, Lei has 6 preset outfits that can be chosen or made via the customization screen, and a gold metallic outfit that is unlocked only by purchasing Tekken 7's Season Pass 1 DLC.

Tekken: Bloodline[]
Lei makes a brief cameo in Tekken: Bloodline before the beginning of the Third Iron Fist Tournament. He wears an outfit similar to his Tekken 2 and Tekken 4 Player 1 outfits. He has the white lapels of the Tekken 2 outfit and the high collar and long sleeves of his Tekken 4 outfit. This outfit is blue with white trim along the hem of the sleeves and around the collar, and has a white inner lining.
The rest of this outfit is only shown in concept art for Tekken: Bloodline. In this art, Lei is shown to be wearing a pair of loose, black, kung-fu pants with red bands around the ankles, and matching black kung-fu footwear. On the chest of his robe as well as both upper arms, there is a gold and white geometric design, and the robe itself is tied along the top of the opening near his chest with red ribbon, and tied about the waist with a black sash.[1]
