TTT2 Mushroom Battle

A larger Heihachi about to attack Kazuya.

Mushroom Battle is a gameplay mode exclusive to the Wii U version of Tekken Tag Tournament 2, inspired by Nintendo's Super Mario series.

Description[]

In Mushroom Battle, all battles are fought solo. Many kinds of Mushrooms will appear on the stages. Characters can obtain the mushrooms by touching them. These mushrooms can greatly influence the outcome of battle. Mushrooms and stars from the Mario series will appear regularly, causing different effects to any fighter that picks them up:

  • Super Mushroom: Increases the fighter's size by one level.
  • Mega Mushroom: Increases the fighter's size to its maximum.
  • Poison Mushroom: Decreases the fighter's size by one level and lowers stamina slightly.
  • Golden Mushroom: Increases the fighter's speed for a fixed period of time.
  • Star: The fighter becomes invincible for a brief period of time, and causes guard damage to the opponent regardless of their size.

A character's power and speed will change depending on their size. Also, the greater the difference between fighters, the more life is lost when guarding an attack. Once there is a difference of 3 sizes between the two, various effects will take place, including being unable to throw the opponent.

There are six stages in Mushroom Battle. Depending on their size and shape, the types of items featured, how often they appear, and the locations they appear in will vary. Learning the features of each stage can give players an edge in battle.

By attacking a mushroom, it can be thrown towards the opponent. This way, Poison Mushrooms, which are usually a hindrance, can be used as an offense by throwing them at the other fighter.

Stages[]

Mushroom Battle takes place in Condor Canyon, Naraku and Bountiful Sea, depending on the stage. The mode features six selectable stages:

  • Stage 1: Play standard Mushroom Battle. You can enjoy simple battle tactics. - The most basic level, featuring all kind of power-ups appearing randomly. At the start of the match there are two Super Mushrooms and a Poison Mushroom in the middle of the stage. It takes place in Condor Canyon and features a remix of the Super Mario Bros. main theme as the background music.
  • Stage 2: Don't stand too close to the wall! Be aware of your position and use the items that appear in the middle of the stage - This stage features mostly Poison Mushrooms sprouting from the ground, but other power-ups as well. It also takes place in Condor Canyon and features the same remix of the Super Mario Bros. main theme.
  • Stage 3: A thrilling stage with swarms of Poison Mushrooms. Use the Golden Mushroom and push your opponent into the Poison Mushroom. - The stage features swarms of Poison Mushrooms, and mostly Golden Mushrooms sprouting from the ground, but also Mega Mushrooms and occasionally Super Mushrooms. One of the Poison Mushroom swarms also has a Star in the middle. It takes place in Naraku and features a remix of the Super Mario Bros. underground theme as the background music.
  • Stage 4: Poison Mushrooms will fly toward the smallest fighter on this stage. Make sure there isn't too great a difference in size with your opponent! The key is figuring out how best to use the Poison Mushrooms. - This stage features mainly Poison Mushrooms sprouting in swarms from the ground, and some Super Mushrooms. It also takes place in Naraku and features the same remix of the Super Mario Bros. underground theme.
  • Stage 5: This stage is full of opportunities for strategizing! Take note of the stage's special characteristics, as well as your opponent's behavior, to win the advantage. But be careful, some say that over time fearsome creatures emerge from the watery depths. - This stage features exclusively Poison Mushrooms and Mega Mushrooms sprouting from the ground, but there also is a Star in the middle of the arena. It takes place in Bountiful Sea and features a remix of the Super Mario Bros. Underwater theme as the background music.
  • Stage 6: The items on this stage ebb and flow like a wave! Mind the signal that indicates an item is about to appear, and unleash an awesome attack while watching your distance from your opponent. - This stage features waves of mushrooms, sometimes all Poison Mushroom, and sometimes both Poison and Super Mushrooms. Right before the wave arrives either a Poison Mushroom or both a Poison Mushroom and a Super Mushroom flash above the character's head, warning the players. It also takes place in Bountiful Sea and features the same remix of the Super Mario Bros. Underwater theme.[1]

Trivia[]

  • The music that plays in this mode are remixes of the Overworld, Underworld, and Underwater themes from the original Super Mario Bros. game. If one of the fighters collect a Star, the background music is replaced by the invincibility theme from New Super Mario Bros. Wii.
  • The fighters' voices change along with their size, becoming more high-pitched if they get smaller, and getting deeper if they grow.
  • One vs One is the only mode, despite the game being tag based.
