Parry (受け流し Ukenagashi?, Flowing Block) is a special parry variation used by Jin Kazama since Tekken 4.
Usage[]
Jin's parry is special in the sense that he does not actually "stun" the opponent like the standard parries such as those from Baek Doo San, Marshall Law, or Steve Fox, nor does he get anything guaranteed. Instead, Jin's parry allows him to avoid an attack entirely and causes him to move to the side, where he can potentially punish an opponent.
A downside to this, however, is that the player must manually parry attacks every time (e.g: If an opponent uses a string with two hits, the player must input the parry twice). As a trade, this parry allows Jin to launch punish several attacks that are normally safe either due to frame advantage or pushback. Conversely, attacks that recover quickly when whiffing such as the Electric Wind Godfist and basic jabs can almost never be punished severely.
In the finale of the Story Mode in Tekken 8, Jin has a unique parry that is always active on idle. If successful, Jin will immediately follow it up with Electric Wind Hook Fist.
Trivia[]
- In Japanese martial arts, uke (受け) is a term that denotes the "receiving" partner during sparring. It can also mean to block or parry a strike.
