Rippers are enemies that appear in the Tekken spin-off game, Death By Degrees. They are cyborgs created by the criminal organization Kometa. Nina encounters them aboard the Amphitrite, facing several models equipped with various weaponry.

Biography[]

Appearance[]

Rippers are tall, humanoid cyborgs adorned with robotic and metal components. They wear combat trousers and boots. Some versions of the Ripper feature additional weaponry and armor, such as cannons, flamethrowers and large Ripper blades. The indication that they used to possibly be human is their pale white torso shown.

Story[]

The Rippers were developed by Kometa, a criminal organization specializing in weapon modification and smuggling.  Lana Lei would acquire cadavers from the fighting tournaments she would host on the Amphitrite including the executives killed by Enrique Ortega

Upon her return to the Amphitrite, Nina will face many Rippers as she tracks down Lana. She eventually learns from Alan that she herself was a potential subject to be "converted" into a cyborg too.

All the Rippers were eventually destroyed when the Amphitrite exploded.

Gameplay[]

Rippers are the first enemies encounters upon Nina's return to the Amphitrite. They are much tougher than the soldiers or the Tekken force enemies. The first set of Rippers fight with their bare hands, using punches and kicks to attack Nina. Many of their attacks have a small wind-up which gives Nina time to avoid them. Hard hitting, many of their attacks will knock Nina over, with some attacks winding her for a moment.

There are types of Rippers; Two unarmed versions - one with an unarmored face and one with armor on their face. The third kind features heavy armored shoulders and gauntlets. All versions fight in a similar manner as Prototype Jack but can also do complex moves. The fourth kind is also armored and wields a large Ripper Blade, and moves quickly on it's feet. Defeating these Rippers will drop Ripper Blades for Nina to use.

The fifth kind features a large, armored right arm, with a large gauntlet on the left arm. They are able to blast Nina with a cannon, and also use flamethrowers.

The sixth and final kind is unarmed, unarmored, naked and fights with more complex moves. Those can only be fought in the lower deck of the ship. Their development was shown in the morgue of the ship. They're occasionally encased in cocoon like cases. They were also fought in the all floors of the lower deck of the ship when the Amphitrite is about to self destruct.

Rippers are dangerous enemies and often appear in groups. They can deal a lot of damage to Nina if she doesn't avoid their attacks.

The most effective tool against the Rippers is the stun baton. Each time Nina hits a Ripper with the stun baton, it will halt the Rippers movement, keeping them from attacking Nina.

Ripper Blades also deal a lot of damage to them, while high powered guns such as Magnums can disable them quickly.

Along with Ripper blades, Rippers will drop Medium Meal kits, medium bottles of water and different oils.

Several Rippers also appear in Anna Mode.
