Team Battle is a mode that allows players to make teams of up to 8 fighters and battle against another player or the CPU. After one character is defeated, the next one in line replaces them. Just like in Survival Mode, the character's health follows over for each match and increases slightly every time a match is won. Team Battle made its debut in Tekken 2 and has been in every game since until the release of Tekken 7.
All selected characters can be randomized with the press of the start button until Tekken 6, where pressing the select button will randomize a player's characters. Randomized characters appear as question marks and losing a match will reveal the next member of the player's team. This process continues until they are down to the last member.
After the final round, a win/loss tally is shown. The tally animation can be repeated by pressing the select button.
Trivia[]
- Because of the start button locking in random characters in earlier games, it is not possible to select alternate costumes which require the start button, for example Kazuya's purple suit in Tekken 2. This is rectified in Tekken 3, where the third outfit is mapped to both the start and right punch buttons. In Tekken Tag Tournament, the bonus costume is mapped to both the start and tag buttons, with the four attack buttons selecting the regular costumes.
- Prior to Tekken Tag Tournament, the random select always used the Player 1 costume for each character, making it impossible to select Alex, Angel, or Panda at random unless the same character slot was currently in use by the opponent. In Tekken 3, Tiger Jackson cannot be selected at random.
