TEKKEN™ or Tekken Mobile was a free-to-play mobile game in the Tekken series released for Android and iOS, developed by a Vancouver, Canada based studio of Bandai Namco. The game was released in some territories from November 2017 before it launched worldwide on March 1, 2018. After less than a year, the studio closed down and the game was discontinued; it remained playable until its servers shut down on February 15, 2019.

Story[]

Revenant

Revenant, the game's antagonist.

The Tekken Mobile story revolves around an original antagonist, Revenant, who was first introduced in this game and has not returned in an installation yet. Revenant is eventually revealed to be a servant of Ogre.

Revenant initially appears during a fight between Kazuya and Nina. He steals their power via a huge black sphere. Kazuya and Nina join forces and recruit other fighters to defeat Revenant and take back their power. Revenant uses fighters known as Acolytes, who are under his mind control, to battle them.

After Revenant is defeated, he summons Ogre, proclaiming that all the power he had collected is now Ogre's. After being released from its giant sphere, Ogre, who was impressed by the strength of the fighters, wants them to join him. The fighters refuse Ogre's offer and swear to fight him. With that, Revenant warns the fighters that they are no match for Ogre, before disappearing in shadowed light.

To play the game, the characters' basic attacks are one of their special moves and other moves serving as their basic combo launchers (Eg. Kazuya uses his Flash Punch Combo and both Hell Lancer and Twin Pistons serving as his basic combo launchers). In order to damage his opponent. It requires to use the Waza Cards which has a total of nine cards in one deck. Once you emptied the cards, you must rely on using basic attacks and basic combo launchers.

If a character is damaged by an opponent, their HP can be recovered by using potions or team potions. If the character is down or in a KO state after being defeated by a strong opponent or the acolytes, a revive potion is instead required.

In order to gain a 1 to 4 star character, the player must gain fragments (from common to super rare), especially to gain any fighter at your side whenever you bought either premium or epic packs. If gaining common fighters such as the 1-star fighter to be obtained, the player collects a total of 10 character fragments once you cleared every act in the Story Mode or in Challenge Dojo or to get Waza Cards when you obtained current fighters in your side and normal fragments used to craft their special attacks.

Every character has an elemental affinity consists of either Earth, Fire, Water or Lightning. Especially when facing an opponent, either type advantage or disadvantage to increase their attack damage in 15%. In the next update, the attack damage is greatly increased to 30%. Trivia[]

  • At Gamescom, Game director Landon Nguyen stated that Bandai Namco wanted 100 characters in the game at the Tekken Mobile-launch worldwide.[3]. However before the announcement to shut down the entire game, the total characters in the game were 42 including the characters in cameo and they did not reach 58 characters throughout the game and its updates.
  • The main reason the mobile game was discontinued was due to the reception of the game's micro-transactions. Like many mobile games, Tekken Mobile featured a system where players could spend real money to gain in-game benefits, many of these being opportunities to randomly get items and characters. Players spent real money to gain gems that would allow them to buy character premium or epic boxes, runes, and accessories. The in-game micro-transactions were widely criticized by many players due to how much they cost, especially when there were bugs in the game in every update. Additionally, many European countries had banned games with micro-transactions as they were legally classified as gambling.
  • Before King came as an update character, he was seen in the trailer and on the cover.
  • This is the second mobile game with new characters.
  • Marduk, Katarina, Shaheen and Lili were the first characters to be released.
  • Each character with another costume had its own character cover.
  • The characters were randomly unlockable.
  • For the first time, Lili's surname was displayed on her character cover.
  • Kazuya and Nina could be obtained for free as they were given to the player on starting the game for the first time.
  • In 2018 during updates, the Tekken (Mobile) logo was changed. It was altered from Kazuya to Jin, and used his CGI art from Tekken Tag Tournament 2 as a logo.
    • On March 31, 2018, the second logo was replaced by Lee holding a red rose.
    • On May 1, a new logo was introduced showing Akuma and Jin. Both the loading screen and the background were changed, with the Arena stage altered to the Abandoned Temple stage, and during loading there was now a "Ten" (天) kanji in the middle.
    • In the next update, the new dual picture logo was of Lee and King II. Both the loading screen and its background were similar to the Jungle stage.
    • This was later replaced by Jin and King II, who could be seen fighting side by side on the new logo.
    • The next logo change featured a close up of Jin next to Eliza.
  • This is the second main spin-off Tekken game not to include Heihachi Mishima and Yoshimitsu.
