Music comments[]

01: Opening Movie

"I started this project with this music but I finished it last. I had a hard time with this one because I had to change the music once the picture changed. By the way, for the vocoder in the midsection, I recorded my own voice." -Akitaka Tohyama

02: Embu

"I was asked to write music for the PS2 Version of the Tekken Tag Tournament for the '99 Tokyo Game Show three days before the show, and I came up with this tune. I didn't think about anything but finishing it on time, and I did it." - Keiichi Okabe

03: Arcade Movie

"This one might be redundant, but I am proud that this was used on TV commercial. It might have a lesser sound quality than other tracks, and I beg your pardon of it." - Yū Miyake

04: Select

"This hasn't changed much from the arcade version. For this PS2 version of Tekken Tag Tournament, I couldn't put the arcade version due to the insufficient memory anyway, so I didn't think I should rearrange the tune at all." - Akitaka Tohyama

05: Jin

"The use of this type of bass is Sano's trend lately. Any sound with simple sound wave shapes sounds good. I love the zap sound spread out between the left and right channels, and I can't help using it repeatedly." - Nobuyoshi Sano

06: Paul

"This tune hasn't be changed at all either. I got tired of the tactic of leaving the original arrangement as it is." - Akitaka Tohyama

07: Hwoarang

"This tune mainly consists of rhythm instruments. The drums arouse the fighting instinct. That's the kind of feeling I wanted to give to the tune. I don't have much attachment to it though." - Keiichi Okabe

08: Eddy

"This is a samba. I like Brazil and I even had Brazilian tropical fish as a pet. Unfortunately, I let the fish pass away because I was too busy to take care of them while I was working on this Tekken Tag Tournament project. How sad." - Yū Miyake

09: Yoshimitsu

"This is the 7th theme of Yoshimitsu, following PS version Tekken 2, Tekken 2 Remixed CD, Tekken 3, Tekken 3 Remixed CD, PS version of Tekken 3 and Tekken Tag Tournament. And this one has the least number of sounds amongst them. It is simple and feels good. I recommend that everyone should use a lesser number of sounds." - Nobuyoshi Sano

10: Lei

"This one has a melancholic mood. The tune is supposed to be more exciting for its purpose, but I thought it might sound good if I did something different. The Tekken Tag Tournament already contains a lot of mellow tunes, after all." - Akitaka Tohyama

11: Ogre

"I wanted to try something new, so I used live strings. I thought it wouldn't be very difficult, but in fact I felt like I used more than double the energy for this piece than I usually do." - Keiichi Okabe

12: Law

"This tune in fact has a name. It's "Unidentified Flying Object." Not to mention that I paid respect to that famous tune as I wrote this." - Yū Miyake

13: School

"A bell is the only sound that gives an impression of school. The sustain-less pad in the middle is from a JP 8000. It has Roland's sharp quality. I used lots of mute. Mute always feels good." - Nobuyoshi Sano

14: Nina

"I like the second half part where the bass drops off and the rhythm and the sequencer go on. I wanted to repeat this part more but the limited memory didn't allow me. How disappointing." - Akitaka Tohyama

15: Xiaoyu

"In the past few years I have only been writing beat music, so I wanted to do a more melodic piece. However, is this music good for Tekken background music?" - Keiichi Okabe

16: King

"This one has an actual name. It's "Humanoid." Like it or not, it repeats "humanoid, humanoid". I let the rhythm shuffle and it gave an unexpected groove to the tune. This is my favorite." - Yū Miyake

17: Heihachi

"I came up with the ascending phrase when I was enchanted playing with the Korg Z1 arpeggiator. I love this one. The chord that comes at the 3rd and 4th upbeat is from the Yamaha V50. I'm getting to like FM, too." - Nobuyoshi Sano

18: Unknown

"This was written by Yu, and I arrange it, but mine doesn't sound like the original at all. The chorus that starts from the intro is the voice of my colleague Misumi." - Keiichi Okabe

19: Unknown Movie

"I wrote this one so that the movie has a feeling of speed. You'll be able to watch the movie toward the end of the game. So, play hard and good luck." -Yoshihito Yano

20: Ending Replay

"The purpose of a replay is to highlight the best fights the player has had and to enjoy reverberations of the play. I didn't think about that at all when I wrote this tune. Well, enjoy the music." - Yoshihito Yano

21: Staff Roll

"Just like on Ogre, live strings were used. I had a painful time giving birth to this tune, so I have a special attachment to it. I just want to hear admiration from you even if you don't mean it, seriously." - Keiichi Okabe

22: Continue?

"This is the first tune I wrote as a recruit when a senior composer asked me to do an arrangement of Tekken. Trying not to destroy the original, I went for a trip-hop feel." - Satoru Kōsaki

23: Name Entry

"This was supposed to be an arrangement of the arcade version but it turned out to be something different. I went after my own taste by combining the piano and the children's distorted voice. This is the kind of the direction I want to pursue further." - Satoru Kōsaki

24: Rannyuu

"This is the traditional sound of the Tekken series. It was rewritten, but it stills sound the same, doesn't it?" - Satoru Kōsaki

25: Join

"I was told I could arrange this however I wanted, so I erased the feel of the original as I scratched it through the sampler." - Satoru Kōsaki

26: Strike

"This is the strike sound effect from Tekken Bowl. Counter to the live strings, I used the live trumpet. The trumpet player was Kousaki. Thanks, Kousaki." - Akitaka Tohyama

27: Spare

"This is the spare sound effect from Tekken Bowl. It well went until I decided to use the live trumpet, but hey Kousaki, the pitch is loose! You better buy a new axe. I had to fix it at the sampling stage." - Akitaka Tohyama

28: Miss

"This is the no-good sound effect from Tekken Bowl. I mistakenly used the bad take of the trumpet. It sounds bad, doesn't it?" - Akitaka Tohyama

29: Result

"This is exactly the same staff roll from the arcade version. We decided to use this at the last minute, so we just left it as it was." - Akitaka Tohyama

30: Xiaoyu VS BKO [Remix Version]

"It really sounds like house. I was going after a hi-fi vibe and tried to make it ridiculously pretty and cool. How do you like that?" - Keiichi Okabe

31: King VS U [Remix Version]

"To tell the truth, I haven't finished this tune yet. But I'll write a comment anyway. I wanted to make something that sounds different from other tunes from Tekken. I used the drum data from a cell phone ringer. Don't tell anybody." - Yū Miyake

32: Yoshimitsu VS SANODG [Remix Version]

"When I let Okabe listen to the rough mix, he said, "Well, it sounds macho". This way such an impressive comment that I hereby declare establishment of a new genre, "Macho Techno."- Nobuyoshi Sano

33: Lei VS TOHYAMA [Remix Version]

"This is the remix of Lei Stage background music, but the sequencer phrase is the only clue to the original. The chord progression from RESULT in the second half makes a stronger impression, I think. Since the original was the arcade version's ending theme, it sounds like it is." - Akitaka Tohyama
