Ultimate Tackle is a throw introduced in Tekken 2, where it is exclusive to Paul Phoenix.
Ultimate Tackle can also be performed by the following characters:
- Kazuya Mishima (Tekken 2 to Tekken 7)
- King II (since Tekken 3)
- Jin Kazama (Tekken 3 and Tekken Tag Tournament)
- Armor King (Tekken Tag Tournament only)
- Devil Jin (Tekken 5 to Tekken 7)
- Raven (Tekken 5 to Tekken Tag Tournament 2)
- Miguel Caballero Rojo (since Tekken 6)
- Master Raven (since Tekken 7)
- Azucena Ortiz (since Tekken 8)
- Armor King II (since Tekken 8)
The input is usually d/b+1+2, however King, Armor King and Miguel can only perform it from a full crouch. Some characters can also use d+1+2. While Armor King I can perform an Ultimate Tackle, Armor King II cannot.
When the move is successful it leaves the user in a Tackle position. For all intents and purposes, Ultimate Tackle is exactly the same as a regular running tackle, except that the characters perform Ultimate Tackle from a standing or crouching position. Like the regular tackle, Ultimate Tackle is a mid-range grapple which cannot be ducked.
In Tekken 2, an Ultimate Tackle can be escaped with 2+4, however a running tackle cannot be escaped at all. The escape was changed to 2 in Tekken 3. If an Ultimate Tackle is performed on a back-turned opponent, it cannot be escaped. Starting in Tekken Tag Tournament, characters can now escape from an Ultimate Tackle whether they are back-turned.
Curiously, an Ultimate Tackle can be reversed like a regular punch, even though it is considered a throw. If reversed, it is treated as a left punch, so the reversal can also be chickened with f+1+3.
Starting with Tekken 3, an Ultimate Tackle can also be reversed while falling with 1+2, which places the opponent in the tackle position. In Tekken Tag Tournament, characters can now perform mounted punches after reversing an Ultimate Tackle.
When Jin changed his fighting style in Tekken 4, he lost the ability to perform an Ultimate Tackle. However, Devil Jin maintained the move until it was removed from his movelist in Tekken 8.
Kazuya Mishima and Raven also lost the ability to perform the Ultimate Tackle in Tekken 8.
