The United Nations (国連 Kokuren?) are an organization in the Tekken series based on their real world counterparts. They are an intergovernmental organization that aims to maintain international peace and security. They have an important role in the Tekken games, opposing the military expansion of the Mishima Zaibatsu and G Corporation, and conducting their own observations and missions.
Their main operatives are a ninja class of secret agents who operate under the codename ‘Raven’. Known playable members are Raven and his superior, Master Raven.

Story

Tekken 4

The UN were spying on the Mishima Zaibatsu during the events of the King of Iron Fist Tournament 4, allowing their agent, Raven, to witness the attack by Jacks on Hon-Maru. Raven witnessed Kazuya Mishima fleeing the sceneand the subsequent explosion that seemingly killed Heihachi Mishima.

Tekken 5

During the events of Tekken 5, the UN dispatched Raven to infiltrate the Fifth King of Iron Fist Tournament, in order to spy on the Mishima Zaibatsu and G Corporation. Raven was beaten by Kazuya until he gave up information he had on G Corporation, who he told Kazuya had betrayed him. On discovering that Heihachi Mishima was still alive, the UN gave orders for him to be eliminated. Before Raven could do so, the UN received new information, and told Raven his new target was Jinpachi Mishima and that he should let Heihachi go. The UN had secret intelligence on Jinpachi, informing Raven that “Mankind will be exterminated if he is fully awakened”. They were aware that Jinpachi was Heihachi’s father, and the founder of the Mishima Zaibatsu, and even had records stating that Jinpachi had been imprisoned underground for years. They explained that the recent explosion had broken ‘the seal’, allowing Jinpachi to return.[1]

Canonically, Raven was ordered back to UN headquarters part way through his fight with Heihachi.[2]

Tekken 6

The UN had a peacekeeping role in Tekken 6, and were attempting to stop the war the Mishima Zaibatsu started and that G Corporation were escalating. They sent their secret operative, Raven, to observe events, and backed the rebel army, Yggdrasil, who had splintered from the Mishima Zaibatsu and were opposing them. They supplied Yggdrasil with intelligence, and helped them in their battle to attack the Zaibatsu, leading their leader, Lars Alexandersson to the desert to help defeat the ancient demon, Azazel. Later, a UN spy drone located the body of Jin Kazama, who was wanted by them as an international war criminal. UN troops recovered Jin from the desert.
The UN or a significant part of it seem to have been taken over by the Mishima Zaibatsu, according to a newspaper headline in Tekken 6 Scenario Campaign, though a faction of it remained independent and continued to oppose the Zaibatsu.

Tekken 7

UN helicopter being destroyed by Devil Jin.

As UN troops were transporting the body of Jin Kazama by helicopter, Jin awoke and transformed into Devil Jin. His laser caused the helicopter to explode. Later, UN peacekeepers tracked Jin to the Souq. There seems to have been a confrontation first with Hwoarang, who protected Jin, and ended up being partially blinded by a UN grenade, and second with Lars, who succeeded in rescuing Jin from UN custody. Yggdrasil then took Jin to one of their bases, and removing him far beyond UN control.
The UN dispatched a high ranking official, Master Raven, to continue the task of monitoring the war between the Zaibatsu and G Corporation.

Personnel

Secret Intelligence Agents

The stylised death ( shi?) kanji of the 'raven' class of secret intelligence agents.

Both known UN secret agents use the codename ‘Raven’, a callsign common to this kind of UN special agent. According to Lee's Secretary in Tekken Supporters, "Delivering the funds took some time, because there were actually several Ravens out there, but I eventually found the correct one." It is thus implied that there are further numerous agents with the callsign 'Raven'.[3] Both known Ravens are ninjas who utilise Ninjutsu. They use their secretive abilities to observe happenings from afar, and are masters of espionage. The real names, ages, and countries of origin of all intelligence agents are kept a secret. They both bear a tattoo of a stylised death ( shi?) kanji, which seems to be a symbol of their class.

UN Peacekeepers

UN Peacekeepers in Tekken 7

UN Peacekeepers have uniforms based on their real world counterparts. They have sky blue helmets and vests, though also wear full facemasks with red goggles, and full body armor, including bulletproof vests.

UN Soldiers

The UN also have regular soldiers, seen in Tekken 6. These soldiers may be a special branch set aside to work for Raven class operatives, as on their shoulder pads they bear the same emblem that both Ravens have tattooed to their left shoulders that resembles a stylised kanji for death ( shi?). They wear mostly black armor, with red sunglasses.

Equipment

  • Spy drones
  • 4 by 4 trucks
  • Helicopters
  • Stealth aircraft

Relations

  • Mishima Zaibatsu – The UN’s interests often rival that of the Mishima Zaibatsu, making them enemies.
  • G Corporation – Are treated as a threat and enemy of UN interests in Tekken 5 and in Tekken 6 Scenario Campaign.
  • Russia – Both Ravens have a rivalry with Sergei Dragunov, suggesting that UN relations are not good with Russia.
  • Jin Kazama/Devil Jin – Captured by the UN at the end of Tekken 6, Jin escaped their custody in Tekken 7. He is wanted by them for international war crimes.
  • Yggdrasil – Allies in Tekken 6, Yggdrasil turned against the UN in Tekken 7.
    • Lars Alexandersson – Worked alongside Raven in Tekken 6, but turned against them when he discovered they had captured Jin Kazama. He gunned down many of their soldiers in the Souq and then escaped with Jin.
    • Tougou – Was in regular contact and worked alongside the UN, sharing information in Tekken 6. Entrusted Raven with Lars’s captain’s insignia.
  • Violet Systems - They are likely now on poor terms, as Violet Systems is aiding Yggdrasil and harboring the UN's target, Jin Kazama.
  • Hwoarang – Defended Jin from UN soldiers. A UN grenade caused him to lose his eye.
  • Heihachi Mishima – Raven witnessed him ‘die’ in the explosion at Hon-Maru in Tekken 5 and announced his death to the world. On discovering him alive at the next Iron Fist tournament, Raven contacted headquarters and was given orders to eliminate him. The order was later changed, to let Heihachi go.
  • Jinpachi Mishima – The UN altered their orders after they found intelligence on Jinpachi, ordering Raven to release Heihachi and instead to make Jinpachi his main target in Tekken 5.
  • Zafina - Zafina gives them information in Tekken 6 and works closely with Raven during this time.

Stages related to the UN

  • Secret Underground Passage (TK6) - a UN facility disguised beneath an office block
  • Souq (TK7) - UN Peacekeepers are fought here in Tekken 7 Story Mode.

Trivia

  • UN Peacekeepers feature in Devil Jin and Hwoarang's Tekken 7 endings, where the grenade thrown by one of their peacekeepers partially blinds Hwoarang. This seems to be a canonical event, as Hwoarang now wears an eyepatch.
  • Raven, Master Raven, and Raven's UN troops from the end of Tekken 6 have a tattoo on their upper left shoulder or shoulder pad, that resembles a stylised kanji for death ( shi?). This symbol thus likely represents the raven class of secret agents, and their associated assigned forces.
